A Sahara tradition
Every summer Moroccans come to Merzouga from all over the country for the sand bath: according to tradition, the hot sand of the dunes helps with joint pain and fatigue.
An attendant digs a hole in the sun-baked sand, you lie down in it and are covered up to the neck for a few minutes. Then you rest in the shade of a tent with hot tea, to let the body sweat.

FAQ
Is it good for everyone?
No. It's not recommended for people with heart or blood pressure problems, pregnant women or children. If in doubt, ask your doctor first. It is not a medical therapy, but a local tradition.
How long does the bath itself last?
A few minutes; the rest of the time you relax in the shade.
