Charming riads and kasbahs and, in the desert, comfortable Berber tents with an authentic atmosphere.
Options and supplement5 days in the most authentic south, far from the busy roads
Between Merzouga and Zagora there is a road that hardly any tour takes: it crosses the Jebel Saghro plateau, shepherd villages, abandoned ksars and the little town of N'Kob, with more than forty kasbahs. It is southern Morocco unfiltered.
Then we drive down into the Draa valley, the longest palm grove in the country, and return towards Errachidia through the Dadès and Todra canyons. Five days and three completely different landscapes.
Down the Ziz valley with stops in Erfoud and Rissani. In the afternoon a camel ride to the Erg Chebbi camp, sunset, dinner and a night in the desert.
Sunrise on the dunes, then a 4x4 tour: a nomad family, Khamlia with its Gnawa music, the highest dunes and, when there is water, the flamingo lake. Free afternoon for sandboarding or quad. Night in a hotel at the foot of the dunes.
One of the most beautiful roads in the country: Alnif, the trilobite fossil capital, then the Jebel Saghro plateau with its volcanic rocks and shepherd villages. Lunch stop in N'Kob among the kasbahs. Arrival in Zagora and evening in a kasbah in the palm grove (about 5 hours' driving).
In the morning Tamegroute, a potters' village famous for its green ceramics and old Koranic library. A photo at the 'Timbuktu 52 days' sign and then up the Draa valley: palm groves, mud-brick ksars and the viewpoint over Agdz. Night in Ouarzazate.
Last day heading east: the Skoura palm grove, the Valley of Roses, a short stop at the Dadès Gorge and a walk in the Todra Gorge. Back in Errachidia in the evening (about 5 hours' driving).
Charming riads and kasbahs and, in the desert, comfortable Berber tents with an authentic atmosphere.
