Itinerary: From Marrakech: Telouet, kasbahs and the Sahara in 6 days

1. 1

   Day 1 · Marrakech — Telouet — Ounila valley — Aït Ben Haddou

   The High Atlas and a detour to Telouet: the kasbah of the Glaoui pashas has halls with cedar ceilings and intact tiles. We drive down the Ounila valley, with its red-earth villages, to Aït Ben Haddou. Sunset from the granary and a night in a kasbah.

   Day 2 · Aït Ben Haddou — Skoura — Valley of Roses — Dadès

   Ouarzazate and the Skoura palm grove with the Amridil kasbah, then the rose water cooperatives of Kelaat M'Gouna. Arrival in the Dadès valley in the afternoon. Night in a guesthouse.

   Day 3 · Dadès — Todra — Merzouga

   Morning in the Dadès valley, with a stop on the Tamellalt hairpin road. Then Tinghir and the Todra Gorge, where you walk through the canyon between walls almost 300 metres high. After lunch the road crosses Tinejdad, with its khettaras, and Erfoud, the fossil capital. Arrival at the dunes in the late afternoon and a camel ride to the camp for sunset.

   Day 4 · Day in the desert

   Sunrise, breakfast and a 4x4 tour: nomads, Khamlia and Lake Dayet Srji when it has water. Lunch with medfouna in Rissani, free afternoon and a night in a hotel at the foot of the dunes.

   Day 5 · Merzouga — Alnif — N'Kob — Agdz

   A road west across Jebel Saghro: Alnif with its fossils, N'Kob with its kasbahs and then the Draa valley to Agdz. Night in a kasbah in the palm grove.

   Day 6 · Agdz — Ouarzazate — Tizi n'Tichka — Marrakech

   In the morning, the viewpoint above Agdz, from where you can see the Draa valley disappearing to the south; then the road crosses Jebel Bani and reaches Ouarzazate. After a coffee break we climb the High Atlas: Berber villages, terraced fields and the Tizi n'Tichka pass at 2,260 metres. Arrival in Marrakech in the afternoon.
