South of Merzouga the dunes give way to a desert of black stone and plateaus. Here, near the village of Taouz, there are rocks carved thousands of years ago with animal figures, when the Sahara was a savannah.

Departure at 8:30 along the track that skirts the dunes to the south.

Back along different tracks, with a stop at a nomad camp. Arrival in Merzouga in the late afternoon.
