The land of the caravans
For centuries Rissani was the gateway to the Sahara: caravans left from here for Timbuktu. Today it has a lively souk, mud-brick ksars and the mausoleum of Moulay Ali Cherif, founder of the dynasty that still reigns in Morocco.
In one day we combine the history of the Tafilalet, the fossil workshops of Erfoud and the desert loop around Erg Chebbi.

Morning — Rissani
The souk, with the donkey market (Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays), the mausoleum of Moulay Ali Cherif and the Oulad Abdelhalim ksar.

Lunch
Medfouna in a traditional oven: bread stuffed with meat, egg and spices, baked under the sand.

Afternoon — Erfoud
Visit to a fossil workshop, where trilobites and ammonites 400 million years old are polished.

End of the day — The desert
Khamlia, the nomad family and sunset on a dune. Back to your hotel.
