Options and supplement3 days from one imperial city to another, through the Sahara
The train from Fez to Marrakech takes seven hours. We take three days, but along the way there are the Erg Chebbi dunes, two canyons, the Valley of Roses and the kasbah of Aït Ben Haddou.
It's the tour we recommend most to people visiting both cities: no doubling back on the same road and a new landscape every day.
Morning departure across the Middle Atlas: Ifrane, the cedar forest with its macaques, Midelt for lunch and the Ziz gorges. Arrival in Merzouga in the afternoon and camel ride to the camp for sunset. Dinner and a night in the desert.
Sunrise on the dunes and breakfast. We pass through Rissani, the old caravan town, and continue west to Tinghir: a walk in the Todra Gorge, between rock walls almost 300 metres high. In the afternoon we drive up into the Dadès valley. Night in a guesthouse overlooking the gorge.
The Valley of Roses, the Skoura palm grove and Ouarzazate. Walking visit of Aït Ben Haddou and then the High Atlas with the Tizi n'Tichka pass at 2,260 metres. Arrival in Marrakech in the evening (about 7 hours with stops).
