Options and supplement2 intense days from the Middle Atlas to the Erg Chebbi dunes
We'll be honest with you: it's about 470 km from Fez to Merzouga, so on this tour you spend quite a lot of time in the car. But the road is a show in itself, from the cedar forests with their macaques to the Ziz gorges, and the night in the dunes makes up for every kilometre.
If you can add even one day, look at the 3-day tour that ends in Marrakech: that way you don't drive back on the same road.
Early start, around 7:30, from your riad. First stop in Ifrane, a mountain town with pitched-roof houses, then the Azrou cedar forest where the macaques come close to the road. Free lunch in Midelt, at the foot of Jebel Ayachi, then the Ziz gorges and the long palm grove to Erfoud. We reach the dunes in the late afternoon: camel ride to the camp, sunset, dinner and music (about 8 hours with stops).
Early wake-up for sunrise from the dune closest to the camp, breakfast and back by camel. We head north with a stop in Erfoud for the fossils and a lunch break in Midelt. Arrival in Fez in the evening.
