Charming riads and kasbahs and, in the desert, comfortable Berber tents with an authentic atmosphere.
Options and supplement4 days from Marrakech to Fez with two nights in the desert
Instead of taking the train, cross the country: the High Atlas, the kasbah road, the canyons and two nights in Merzouga, one at camp and one in a hotel at the foot of the dunes.
On the last day you head north through the Ziz gorges and the cedar forests of the Middle Atlas, reaching Fez just as the medina lights up.
We climb the High Atlas to the Tizi n'Tichka pass, at 2,260 metres, with stops in Berber villages. Walking visit of Aït Ben Haddou, lunch in Ouarzazate and then the Skoura palm grove and the Valley of Roses. Arrival in the Dadès valley in the late afternoon and a night in a guesthouse.
Morning in the Dadès valley, with a stop on the Tamellalt hairpin road. Then Tinghir and the Todra Gorge, where you walk through the canyon between walls almost 300 metres high. After lunch the road crosses Tinejdad, with its khettaras, and Erfoud, the fossil capital. Arrival at the dunes in the late afternoon. Sunset camel ride and a night at camp.
Sunrise on the dunes, a 4x4 tour with nomads, Khamlia and oases, lunch in Rissani. Free afternoon for sandboarding or the pool and a night in a hotel at the foot of the dunes.
Sunrise on the dunes and breakfast, then we head north. The road climbs the Ziz valley, passes through the gorges and the Legionnaire's tunnel and reaches Midelt for lunch. In the afternoon the Middle Atlas: the Azrou cedar forest with its macaques and Ifrane, the town of red roofs. Arrival in Fez in the evening (about 8 hours with stops).
