Options and supplement4 days from the Sahara to Marrakech along the road of a thousand kasbahs
This tour is designed for those who arrive in Errachidia (by plane or bus) and want to end their trip in Marrakech. After the night in the dunes we cross the whole south: canyons, oases, mud-brick villages and kasbahs that look like sandcastles.
On the last day we climb the High Atlas over the Tizi n'Tichka pass, at 2,260 metres, and drive down to Marrakech: a change of scenery you won't forget.
Morning departure south along the Ziz valley, with stops in Erfoud (fossils) and Rissani (souk and ksar). In the afternoon we reach the Erg Chebbi dunes and ride camels to the camp. Berber dinner and a night under the stars.
Sunrise on the dunes and breakfast. Back by 4x4 or camel and on towards the west: the khettaras of Tinejdad, the palm grove of Tinghir and a walk in the Todra Gorge. We continue to the Dadès valley, where the road winds up between finger-shaped rocks. Dinner and night in a guesthouse overlooking the valley (about 5 hours' driving).
Morning in the Valley of Roses at Kelaat M'Gouna, famous for its rose water (the harvest festival is held in May). Visit of the Amridil kasbah in the Skoura palm grove and arrival in Ouarzazate, the 'Hollywood of the desert'. Afternoon for the Taourirt kasbah or the film studios. Night in a kasbah in Ouarzazate or Aït Ben Haddou.
Walking visit of Aït Ben Haddou, the ksar where Gladiator and Game of Thrones were filmed. We climb to the granary at the top for the view over the valley. Then the High Atlas road: the Tizi n'Tichka pass, Berber villages clinging to the slopes and stops at argan oil cooperatives. Arrival in Marrakech in the afternoon (about 4 hours' driving).
